How to Save on Groceries Without Clipping Coupons

Saving money on groceries without cutting coupons involves preparation and smart grocery shopping.

Here are some tips to save you money without coupons:

You can start by looking at weekly sales at each store you plan to shop and organizing your weekly or biweekly meal plan based on this and what ingredients you currently have at home.

Price matching is also your friend. There are a few stores that offer price matching (namely, Walmart or Target) so if you see a better price elsewhere you show it to them and they should give you that price. Always double check the policies with your local store before you head there because they can change things up.

Only get things on your list to avoid impulsive purchases, which can quickly push you over your budget.

Purchasing non-perishable or regularly used items in bulk can also help you save  long-term.  Calculate what the unit prices are make sure bulk purchases are cost-effective. If you don't think you can eat all of it in a timely fashion, you could share the cost with family or friends and split the items.

Do some price comparisons of different brands and try out generic brands that may be cheaper but still be high quality.

Using cashback apps or loyalty programs (i.e. Ibotta or Safeway app) can save you some extra money by clicking on the items you want to buy ahead of time and either entering your phone number in-store at checkout, or scanning your receipt. With grocery store apps, some offer rewards points for discounted gas or free items.

Always have a full belly before you head to the store to make it less likely that you'll want to splurge on extra stuff.

Buy produce that is in season so it tastes fresher and is more affordable. Farmers markets are also a good place to check for inexpensive produce. Whole fruits and veggies are also cheaper than the ones that you find already cut up and packaged in the store.

Meat can be expensive so buy more affordable protein sources like beans, lentils, and tofu.

Using a combination of these tips can help you cut down on your grocery bill without having to clip coupons.
